Jim Goes Hiking

Jim explores an undercut.
A scowl from the Underlands.

Jim drove out to visit last week!

The weather was nice, so we headed out to the woods.

Jim hikes the hills.
New life out of cold stone.

Jim said that he found the hills a nice change from his usual walking route.

Honey comb erosion in the sandstone cap.

It’s mid-May and sping is in full swing.

The sandstone erodes unevenly because there are more soluble mineral deposits mixed into the sandstone. The white deposits erode first, and leave the darker sandstone behind.

Jim finds a rotten stump.

This tree was blown over during a storm. Jim examines the base for the source of the failure. Bugs and slugs! he says. Ants of every shape and color.

A woodpecker’s paradise.

Rest Break
Ferns and moss and lichen oh my!
Tiny flowers from the moss.
Jim and I take a break during our hike.
A joint in the rock.

Too soon, it was over.

All that remained were sore legs and memories.
